In keeping with spring cleaning, we'll look at the ways yoga can affect our digestion. From the senses to the mouth to excretion, the gut interacts with other body systems. Not only does the gut reflect our diet, but the microbiome of our gut also influences our eating behaviors, thinking, emotions, breathing, and cardiovascular system. This has been known in yoga for thousands of years and agni, digestive fire, is an essential aspect in Ayurveda, even though the language used to express the discoveries at the time was different than that of modern neuropsychoimmunology. We talk about the functional anatomy of the gut and microbiome and common disorders, as well as simple, effective yogic ideas for healing or keeping this important part of us healthy. The measures include rituals, basic dietary habits but also just yama, niyama, Āsana, Prānāyāma and meditation. As simple, concrete and as many practical tips as possible, we dedicate this day to our intestines.
